A preview of ocean acidification

Acidification of waters of the Puget Sound are measuring higher than those of the nearby Pacific Ocean due to pollutants resulting from increased population pressures. A report from the coast of Mexico studies the effects of increased acidification due to submarine springs.

Excerpts from Submarine springs offer preview of ocean acidification effects on coral reefs, November 28, 2011, by Tim Stephens, UC Santa Cruz

Observations at submarine springs found along the coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula are giving scientists a preview of the possible fate of coral reef ecosystems in response to ocean acidification.

The naturally low pH (a measure of acidity) in the water around the springs creates conditions similar to those that will result from the widespread acidification of surface waters that scientists expect to occur as the oceans absorb increasing amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The researchers reported their findings in a paper published in the journal Coral Reefs (published online Nov. 20).

Good hand for hire - writer too

While looking for more projects myself, noticed this on Craigslist:

Good Hand for Hire. - (port hadlock, chimacum)

Hello,

My name is Dan and I am looking to land a job. I am 30 years old, in great health, a non-smoker and no stranger to hard work and ugly conditions. I’m in a bit of a fix, as I have a suspended driving license for failure to pay a fine. It has been sent to collections and here I am. I can do most anything non-technical and have great local references with long time county residents. My work exp includes commercial fishing, proffesional mule and horse packer/ elk hunting guide, concrete worker and masonry hoddy. Here lately I have been bucking and splitting quite a bit of firewood and I’m pretty damned quick at it. I can go for long periods and I don’t tire easily. Im wanting more of a permanant spot for one or two folks, but I’d sure be happy to do anything I could. Help, I sure dont want to move back to Arkansas. I sure thank you folks for reading.

Dan’s Craigslist contact: job-tef4g-2729606909@craigslist.org

I like the way it’s written, save some typos, but good writer nevertheless. What’s in Arkansas?
